Kick-off Meeting of NRP 73

06.02.2018

The researchers and the Steering Committee exchange information and network. This is an important prerequisite for contributing to the necessary transformation of the economy and society.

Around 100 researchers from a wide variety of research institutions and disciplines, including economists, environmental scientists, engineers, social scientists and mathematicians, met at the Sempachersee Hotel in Nottwil on 22 and 23 January 2018 with the aim of gaining scientific knowledge about a sustainable economy that uses natural resources more carefully, creates social welfare and increases Switzerland’s competitiveness as a business location. The video provides a glimpse of the event (see below).

Dr. Katrin Muff of the Business School Lausanne, started with an inspiring and informative presentation. She encouraged researchers to be innovative and work together where urgent action is needed and to ensure the relevance and impact of sustainability research.

The NRP 73 researchers presented their projects. The short presentations were filmed and are available online (see news "In a nutshell: Lay summaries of the projects of NRP 73"). Subsequently, the researchers exchanged views in the form of moderated strategic discussions, during breaks and in the evening and identified synergies and points of contact with other projects.

Judith Zbinden from Euresearch informed the participants about Horizon 2020's work programme 2018-2020 Climate Action, Environment, Resource Efficiency and Raw Materials and encouraged the researchers to participate.

Over the next five years, NRP 73 will work intensively on technological solutions, economic incentives, appropriate political and legal frameworks, highlight exemplary practical examples and lay the necessary foundations for a sustainable economy as a whole.
